HAMMIN' IT UP WITH BLOG HOG HAMILTON

I don't want to hear a word about honey-glazed ham or maple bacon!  Don't be licking your chops either!  Did you know it was National Pecan Pie Day yesterday?  Pecan pie is usually made with Karo corn syrup.  It's thought that the French invented pecan pie soon after settling in New Orleans, after being introduced to the nut by Native Americans.
I thought you might want to know the difference between granulated sugar, brown sugar, molasses, honey, maple syrup, and corn syrup.  I know, I know, I AM SWEET!
  • Granulated sugar - This is made from sugar cane.
  • Brown sugar - A blend of granulated (white) sugar and molasses.
  • Molasses - This is the residue that is left after sugar crystals are extracted from sugar cane.
  • Honey - Unlike other syrups, honey is a pure natural product to which nothing is added.
  • Maple syrup - A largely unrefined sweetener made from the boiled sap of the sugar maple trees.
  • Corn syrup - This is made from cornstarch.
Napoleon pastry, a flaky French dessert, was not named after the French emperor, however.  A fun tale is that he ate so many of them on the the eve of Waterloo, that he lost the battle.  Napoleon was not a flaky general or emperor!
I don't know why I am so hungry now - must be that sweet tooth.  Why don't we just sit back and watch our favorite piglet, Piglet!
