I can't believe that a pig wasn't considered as a symbol for the State Seal!  When pigs fly, right?  Actually, the phrase "when pigs fly" is an adynaton (a way of saying something that is never going to happen), and is thought to have come from a Scottish proverb of the 16th century.  One of my favorite bands, Pink Floyd, has a flying pig on the cover of their Animals album (which was partly inspired by George's Orwell's Animal Farm), and they always use an inflatable pig as a prop in their concerts! 

In The Simpsons episode, Lisa the Vegetarian, Lisa pushes Homer's prize pig down a hill into a river, where it ends up getting shot through the air by the suction of a dam's spillway.  Meanwhile, Mr. Burns tells Smithers in his office that he would like to donate some money to the orphanage.  When Smithers questions his statement, Burns answers, "Sure, when pigs fly."  The pig then flies past his window, at which point he admits he would still like to keep his money...That REALLY STINKS, Mr. Burns!  He really is a greedy pig!

 Did you know that pigs are considered a symbol of good luck in countries such as Germany, Austria, England, and Ireland?  The saying "pig in clover" signifies financial prosperity and well-being.  Clover is one our favorite foods!  You'll feel lucky, too, while you're watching an episode of Charlie and Lola in Lucky, Lucky Me. 

Even though I'm hog-tired after all the July 4th celebrating, I can still laugh at myself!  You can't take yourself too seriously, folks!

Q: Did you hear about the pig who opened a pawn shop?
A: He called it “Ham Hocks”!

Q: Did you hear about the pig who tried to start a hot-air balloon business?
A: He couldn’t get it off the ground!

Q: Why did the pig go to the casino?
A: To play the slop machine!

Q: How do you take the pig to the hospital?
A: By hambulance!
