DADS by Blog Dog Dan

What upcoming holiday celebrates honor, respect, pride, and love?  The answer is Father's Day!  Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, which is June 19 this year.  Do you think of your dad and remember all the special times you shared?  Are some of these well-known Dad-isms familiar to you?:

  • Go ask your mother....
  • Were you born in a barn?
  • Do you think money grows on trees?
  • Eat your dinner - it'll put hair on your chest.
  • The sooner you learn to stand on your own two feet, the better off you'll be.
4 years: My Daddy can do anything!
7 years: My Dad knows a lot -- a whole lot.
8 years: My father does not know quite everything.
12 years: Oh well, naturally Father does not know that either.
14 years: Oh, Father? He is hopelessly old-fashioned.
21 years: Oh, that man he is out of date!
25 years: He knows a little bit about it, but not much.
30 years: I must find out what Dad thinks about it.
35 years: Before we decide, we will get Dad's idea first.
50 years: What would Dad have thought about that?
60 years: My Dad knew literally everything!
65 years: I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.

Here's a quote by Jimmy Piersal (a former center fielder in Major League Baseball)
on how to diaper a baby: Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again.

All joking aside, fatherhood is a serious responsibility.  A good father leads by example, spends quality time with his kids, is supportive and loyal, and gives unconditional love.  But let me ask you this - what is it about being a dad that brings out the "goofy" in men when they're with their kids?  Did you ever see the Goof Troop series or A Goofy Movie, which centered around Goofy and his relationship with his son, Max?  It's a really good movie for you to watch with your dad and enjoy some laughs together.  You can also enjoy this 1951 Goofy cartoon, Fathers are People, Too.

Here are some pictures of a typical dad being "goofy" with his kids.
Garsh, those shorts are short!
